Writing is thinking about writing, then a rush of activity to get the thoughts on paper, somehow. Then it's a matter of rewriting until both the writer and, hopefully, the reader agree it's writing. And computers make that whole process a hell of a lot easier.

Magazines and Newspapers
Sure, I'll take the plushy assignments. For almost 10 years I traveled all over the world staying in fine hotels and playing golf so I could write stories for GOLF Magazine. But I've done the dirty work too, journaling the gritty farm labor strikes back in the 60s; I've slept in paper sleeping bags covering wildfires that ravaged the Southwest. The point is, if there is a story to be told I can tell it for you in exactly the number of words and in the voice you need. And you'll get the story on time, by wire or by mail. In digital format or in hard copy. Want Some Clips? Click on the titles below.

Books and Movies
My latest book is Don't Retire--New Life Strategies For Aging Boomers and Other Lost Souls, which is on the market now from M&J Southwest. It is available here on our site as well as at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. (ISBN # 0-9744534-0-4) While I have other projects in mind and always have something going, I am open to ghost and contract writing (Click here for a short ghost story). My subjects of choice are travel, golf, psychology, modern history, medicine and biography, but I'll tackle anything. After all, the research is half the fun. I'm just finishing a fascinating biography for a black man who grew up in segregationist/depression era Mississippi. That will go to press in late March. I'm currently under contract to edit another biography and write a screenplay on a well-known businesswoman's life that was filled with tragedy at the close of 2004. Click here for all of my books credits. If you have a book project in mind and want to talk about it click here here to send me an e-mail.

I have six completed screenplays, one of which has been optioned twice and is currently in development hell. The Last Cowboy, and Holiday,Earp & Goldfarb are two of my screenplays and a completely polished an ready for director perusal. Click on the title below to see the synopsis of some of my work.

Speech Writing
I'm going to brag here--I really good and this. I have a knack for listening to someone speak and then writing dialogue for them. It can be a major keynote speech or a simple holiday toast. There is a thing I call the "music of speech" and I can hear someone's music when they talk. I recently listened to a client on the phone and then wrote dialogue for her book project. When she read it to a friend they thought she had written it herself--she hates to write, so Id do it for her. In more than 20 years of writing magazine and newspaper stories in which I quoted thousands of people I have never accused of misquoting anyone. Not because I always got every word they said correct, but because I wrote what they were saying the way they said it. It's more than taking notes and getting the words, it's about the music of the speaker. Got a lecture or speech to do, I've got the words, they way you would say them. Email me for references and prices.
