You are a writer if you think you are!

There is no school, court, wizard, deity, writer police, or other scion that proclaims you to be a writer. That determination comes from within your own mind. If you think you're a writer, then you are one. Don't let anyone tell you differently. To be a marketable writer is another task. It requires preparation, patience, and perseverance. It requires work, feedback, more work, more feedback and that's where I come in. I'm Coach Cox, and I've been writing and managing writers and editors for a long time. Now I'm available to coach you with your writing career.

"It says best selling author (not writer)."

That's Robert T. Kiyosaki said talking about the cover of one of his runaway best sellers in his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series. Robert never started out to be a writer, he became an author because he had something to say and he said it in print. Then he became a lecturer and a, well, a, rich dad, of course.

There are two kinds of writers, those who do it for the love of writing (the starving artists syndrome) and those who have an Idea to sell. Either way, if they are to be successful and self-supporting, they must first understand the business of writing and publishing. then they must become intimately familiar with the structure and requirements of the market they wish to service.

Are you a beginning writer, looking to break into the trade? I can help. Here's what I do.

1. Telephone coaching on ideas, markets, industry needs and requirements.

We talk on the phone, you tell me what you want to do and what your subject matter is and we'll discuss its marketability. I'll give you specific markets to explore and teach you what the editors want and how they buy it. Want to be a magazine writer? Let's talk about your specific fields of interest and expertise. I can coach you on how to look for a full-time job or where the freelance market is and how to exploit it. Think you want a screen writing career? I'll give you the benefit of almost ten years in the marketplace.

2. Telephone and email exchange with feedback on content, style, marketability.

If you've got a story, book, speech or other material that you're already working on and need help making it the best it can be, send it to me and let me read it. Then we'll talk, live, on the phone. I'll give you honest feedback and helpful tips on how to improve it and what markets it will play to. Beware! I might just tell you that you need to can it and start over, but it will be honest feedback based on more than 40 years in the communications business.
